Riyanti Djalante is the Assistant Director for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance at the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). She has vast experiences related to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation research and policy. She is the Lead Author of IPCC Assessment Report 6 Working Group II, IPCC Special Report on impacts of 1.5 degree warming, and the Global Environmental Outlook 6 of the UN Environment Programme. She is the scientific editor of the Journal of Sustainability Science and Progress in Disaster Science Journal. Dr Djalante has been working closely with the UN organizations, particularly UNDRR, UNFCCC, UNEP, UNESCO and UNESCAP.
Her current appointments include a member of the Scientific Committee of the IRDR, research fellow of the Earth System Governance Network, Social Science Fellow of the International Council for Science. Previously, she worked as a Research Associate at the UNU Institute of Environment and Human Security in Germany. She also worked for the government in Indonesia accumulatively for 10 years where she has been involved in disaster management and emergency preparedness, development planning and implementations. She has consulted for internationally funded projects on issues related to governance, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in South-East Asia.
