
Khawar Mumtaz has spent more than 30 years working in the fields of development, the environment and women’s issues. She contributed to developing Pakistan’s national conservation strategy, and represents West Asia on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Council.
Ms Mumtaz sits on the board of directors of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and on the editorial panel of the Society for Development’s journal, Development. She is a member of the Working Group of Pakistan’s Planning Commission on Economy, Poverty and Sustainable Agriculture. She is also CEO of Shirkat Gah Women’s Resource Centre.
Ms Mumtaz’s expertise lies in women’s political empowerment, gender and development, women and the environment, and poverty. Her work spans capacity building of grassroots organizations to advocacy with policymakers. She uses her research interest of gaining insights into women at grassroots level to make inputs in policy formulation. Ms Mumtaz holds an MA in international relations from the University of Karachi in Pakistan.
