The Ministry of Local Affairs and the Environment, Tunisia, will host a Regional Forum co-organized with the International Resource Panel on ‘Challenges and Perspectives of Sustainable Development in North Africa’ on 12 December 2018 in Tunis.
The Forum, which will be opened by the Minister of Local Affairs and the Environment, brings together representatives from across government in Tunisia and North African countries, the private sector, and civil society, as well as eminent scientists from the International Resource Panel to discuss strategies, best practices and challenges in transforming economies and societies towards resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production.
The International Resource Panel will share findings from its most recent research endeavours – including a sneak peek at the outcomes of the Global Resources Outlook 2019 which will be submitted as an official document to the Fourth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in March 2019.
Peder Jensen, Head of the International Resource Panel Secretariat, will also present findings from the Panel’s study on governance of the extractives sector, to be launched in 2019.
The Forum will also take a deep dive into Tunisian and regional experiences with the United Nations SwitchMed programme, sustainable public procurement, and strengthening public private partnerships.
