The 31st Meeting of the International Resource Panel (IRP) took place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 20 to 23 February 2024. Participants from all over the world, including scientists, government representatives, and strategic partners, came together to discuss resource-related topics and advance the IRP’s 2022-2025 program of work.
Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, called the IRP "the" voice of reason on resource use after her opening speech at the Joint Meeting with the IRP Panel Members, Secretariat, and Steering Committee. She stressed the importance of reducing the resource intensity of food, mobility, housing, and energy systems as the only way of achieving the SDGs.
The Meeting took place in person in Nairobi ahead of UNEA-6, where the flagship report of the IRP, the Global Resources Outlook 2024, was launched at a high-level press event on 1 March.
