Stephen Hatfield-Dodds is the Executive Director of ABARES, and was the lead author of Australian National Outlook report (2015). He has worked for more than two decades across sustainability research, public policy, and business strategy.

Stephen Hatfield-Dodds is the Executive Director of ABARES - the economics and science bureau of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, Australia. Prior to this, he led CSIRO’s integration science and modelling initiative, and was the lead author of the Australian National Outlook report (2015) and associated paper on the cover of Nature journal.

He has worked for more than two decades at the intersection of sustainability research, public policy, and business strategy. His expertise includes environment and resource economics, public policy, integrated modelling and assessment, social and political theory, and the science-policy nexus.

Dr Hatfield-Dodds is an Honorary Professor at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University (ANU), and Board Member of the International Society for Ecological Economics (ISEE).

His past career has included senior public service roles in Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Allen Consulting Group, Department of Environment and Heritage, Treasury, and research positions at ANU and CSIRO.
