Panel member Dr Anthony Shun Fung Chiu took part in a panel session on climate change and the environment at the Regional Seminar for East and South East Asia organized recently by the European Commission in Hanoi, Viet Nam.

The aim of the session was to assess the effects of rapid economic growth and rapid urbanization, particularly on deforestation, loss of biodiversity, fast-growing carbon emissions and energy consumption.

Also on the same panel was International Resource Panel Steering Committee Co-Chair, Astrid Schomaker, Director for Global Sustainable Development at the European Commission's Directorate General for the Environment.

The two highlighted various aspects of the Panel’s work, discussing resource efficiency, the circular economy, sustainable energy, global resource use, forests and land management.
